Comment Spam

by Steve on June 26, 2006

Be careful what you ask for! I remember wishing more readers would leave comments. Seems some spam generators have found my little site so I ‘ve set some filters which unfortunately will result in an extra step if you do wish to comment and a delay before you see your comment posted.

If you go through the process to leave a comment (and I hope you do) you will be asked to enter a scrambled series of letters provided by security software. I know this is a pain but it defeats auto-spammers since they can’t read and type.

The delay is due to my decision to enable comment moderation. Your post won’t appear until I’ve had a chance to read it and make sure it’s not spam. Comments will not be rejected based on content as long as they pertain to the subject matter.

Thanks for your understanding.

Censorship, he cried! And with a grand gnashing of teeth and wringing of hands, he contemplates arguing for the little-guy – that poor Nigerian, sitting in an Internet Cafe in Lagos, pumping out millions upon millions of emails, nary a one to grace the exhaulted pages of The Wood Shed!

Welcome to the world Big League Online Spam! I usually get about at least a dozen a day now. You *really* haven’t hit the wall, though, until you get so frustrated you try and write some of them back…

Geez, Pinch, maybe you’re right. Maybe I shouldn’t filter the crap out. You never know when I may actually decide to purchase counterfit Cialis from an unknown source and actually ingest it. Or bet my retirement on some penny stock billed as the next Microsoft. The really amazing part is that based on the frequency of this crap, people are buying!!
