Messing About

by Steve on April 27, 2009

“There is nothing–absolutely nothing – half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.”

– Kenneth Grahame, The Wind in the Willows

To the skeptics who still doubt I have actually launched and paddled the canoe I offer the following:

Sunday was a rather unique opportunity.  It’s not often you find a wood-canvas canoe in central Alabama – two of them together cuts the odds considerably.  The square stern is a Kingfisher designed and built by Rollin Thurlow, the same Maine builder I bought my plans and materials from.  Small world.

Many thanks to Dick and Joan for sharing.

Looks real to me! Do you paint a name on a canoe?

You should be proud.

I wasn’t so much, shall we say skeptical as, oh, I don’t know — nonbelieving!! 🙂

Both those boats look good, but yours, of course, is nicer.
