Surely the UK saw this coming:

British politicians on Friday condemned celebrations in Tripoli on the return of the Lockerbie bomber, scrambling to deflect any international political fallout from a decision to free him on humanitarian grounds.

Did they really think that he would go home quietly and be treated as a criminal? With capital punishment you don’t have to worry about weak politicians doing the unthinkable.

Probably this is not the first time something like this has happened — but, Good Lord, I am against it. It’s just crazy to free him. He should die in prison. Period.
