Alternative Work-out

by Steve on November 25, 2009

I’m still recovering physically from last weekend.  Who needs the gym when you have an 18′ boat to work over with the long board?  Double diagonal from end to end fairing the hull (knocking down edges of the new planks and any high spots).  By hand.  The arms and back were feeling it.  I kept hearing the ghost of Pat Morita saying “Wax on, wax off.”  And this was after going over the entire hull with hammer and clinching iron hitting every single tack to be sure all were properly clinched.  Once the hull gets covered there’s no going back to correct a tack that got missed and those little spikes are murder on bare feet!  The planking replacement is finally complete.  What’s with the color differential you ask?  Fear not, the inner face of the new planks got stained to (hopefully) match the old wood once oil and varnish are applied.
